History:
The church was originally located in the village of Crabapple Pa. and
was later moved to Ryerson Station Pa. in 1874. The original church name
was, “South Wheeling Baptist”. It was given this name because
it was located next to the South Wheeling Creek. After being closed for
some time it was reopened as a mission church by Cameron Baptist Church
of Cameron West Virginia. The church later constituted as their own entity
and added the word “Ryerson” to their name to set it apart
from other churches in the association located in Wheeling West Virginia.
A new church was constructed in 2006 approximately 1.5 miles east of the
original location. The original structure is still standing and remains
property of the church to this day.
Statement of Faith:
The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the foundation for our
statement and the practice of our faith. We support the doctrinal statement
of the Baptist Faith and Message and band ourselves together as a body
of believers in Jesus Christ. We hold the belief that we are to be personally
committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind.
Church Affiliation:
We are affiliated with the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptist
and are a part of a group of local churches, which form the Upper Ohio
Valley Baptist Association. We believe in and support local and foreign
missions and strive to do our part in sharing the message of salvation.
Church Government:
The church, although affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention,
are an autonomous entity. The church is governed only by its membership.
The pastor along with other church leaders, have the responsibility to
lead the church as, they are directed by the Holy Spirit.
Purpose:
The church, exists to exalt and worship the Savior Jesus Christ, evangelize
the lost, and to equip the body of believers to do the work of the ministry.
